We often get asked how orange our oak is and how to avoid an orange oak floor. This question is difficult to answer because an individuals perception of what is ‘orange’ differs depending on personal taste and the appearance of the flooring in different surroundings. We wouldn’t judge any of our oak boards to appear orange in the state that we supply them, but if you are worried about orange flooring and want to prevent your floor from being this tone, we suggest the following:
Order samples and use our ‘Try one box’ service
The sample that you will receive is guaranteed to be genuine and taken straight from the box without any alterations. However it is important to keep in mind that there may be colour variation from one sample to the next as oak is a natural product and variations do occur. For this reason we offer a unique ‘Try one box’ option on many of our products. This lets you order just the one box of flooring at no extra cost to view a larger area of flooring before committing to a full order. By ordering one box first you are able to lay out full length boards and get a true representation of what the overall floor will look like.
Any opened boxes are non-returnable; however it can save a lot of money and hassle if you decide that it’s not the perfect board for you!
Opt for an Untreated oak board
When you purchase a pre-treated board the finish has been factory applied and cannot easily be changed on site if you’re not happy with colour. As mentioned above it can also be tricky to choose a pre-treated flooring that’s the right colour based on small samples alone. Untreated boards on the other hand have no finish on them at all, allowing you to have them treated on site to the exact colour of your choice. By purchasing your oak flooring untreated you eliminate the risk of the floor not being the exact colour as you expected because you have a choice of what you apply on site and therefore have complete control over the final appearance. Consider Applying a Treatex Finish
Another advantage of purchasing an untreated board is that you can choose a finish which is known for it’s quality. It allows you the chance to research different finishes that are available and decide on what finish will work best for you both in terms of aesthetics and durability.
With a range of top quality products that are easy to apply and maintain, Treatex have established themselves as a market leader in the wood finishing industries. We recommend using their Hardwax oil to protect your flooring from stains and damage. They offer a wide variety of Colour Tones that can either darken the oak, keep it lighter shades, or white washed options. The colour tones are then over-coated with a hard wearing layer of Treatex Clear Hardwax oil. When applied on its own, the Clear Hardwax oil can give the oak a warm, traditional oak tone. Additionally to providing protection, Treatex Hardwax oil will enhance the natural wood features of the oak board.
