Please Note: Clear Hardwax oil must be used as the final coat(s) when using Treatex Colour Tones or Natural Hardwax Oil as a base coat.

Coverage: 2.5 Ltr will cover approx 50m2 in one coat / 30m2 in two coats depending on type of timber and application method.

There are 2 methods of application with Clear Treatex Hardwax Oil. We will detail both below however most of our non professional customers will use Application Method 1 below (brush / roller on)

Sanding – Our engineered oak floors usually do not require sanding before finishing. If you’re applying Treatex Hardwax Oil to an existing floor then the floor should be sanded back using 120-150 grit, unless you’re overcoating a floor that is already treated with Treatex Hardwax Oil. Assuming the pre-existing finish is not Treatex Hardwax Oil then it is recommended that all the existing finish must be removed and the Treatex Hardwax Oil applied to the bare timber. Please call us with any questions.

Application Method 1 (recommended for non professionals)

If you’re applying the Treatex Hardwax Oil over a Treatex Colour Tone or Treatex Hardwax Oil Natural then it’s important you have allowed the base coat to dry before application.

  • Apply the first coat using a good quality brush or microfibre roller. Do not apply too thick and work to a wet line.
  • Allow the first coat to dry. Drying times can vary depending on site conditions. With good ventilation, warmth and air flow this usually takes 3-6 hours.
  • Apply the 2nd coat using a good quality brush or microfibre roller. This coat must not be applied until the first coat is dry.
  • Usually ready for use after 8 hours.
  • Usually “cured” (ready for furniture, higher traffic etc) after 18 hours.

Application Method 2

If you’re applying the Treatex Hardwax Oil over a Treatex Colour Tone or Treatex Hardwax Oil Natural then it’s important you have allowed the base coat to dry before application.

  • Apply thin coat using a good quality microfibre roller.
  • Leave for 10 minutes.
  • Slow buff with a soft pad to remove excess.
  • Finish using a lint free cloth under the buffer.
  • Leave for 45 minutes to dry with good ventilation.
  • Apply the final coat with high quality microfibre roller – do not buff this coat. You must leave this coat to dry naturally to ensure there if sufficient product left on the surface to protect the timber.
  • Usually ready for use after 8 hours.
  • Usually “cured” (ready for furniture, higher traffic etc) after 18 hours.
